The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is hiring a full- time Patient Advocate to join our outstanding Specialty teams!
Compensation: $27 - $32/hr based on experience and skill level
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

CVRC located in beautiful Charleston, SC is the ONLY VECCS Level 1 certified facility in South Carolina, and 1 of only 2 in the southeast region of the United States! Our emergency center is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to always support our community! Specialty services offered at CVRC include cardiology, internal medicine, neurology & neurosurgery, medical oncology (radiation oncology coming soon!), rehabilitation, soft tissue & orthopedic surgery. Our hospital houses an MRT, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and digital radiographs for diagnostic imaging.
About the Role: The Patient Advocate ensures the well-being of patients and client satisfaction by facilitating effective communication and collaboration between the medical service and Client Care Department. This role supports seamless coordination of patient care and provides compassionate client service.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding department patients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and updates with empathy and professionalism. Provide client education on department procedures, disease/disease processes, post- operative care, medication administration, and recognizing potential complications.
- Offer emotional support to pet owners, guiding them through the stress and anxiety of their pet’s medical treatment.
- Participate in inpatient rounds and collaborate with the medical team to ensure high standards of patient care. Coordinate with doctors and in-house technician on patient progress for improved outcomes. Monitor patients’ physical, mental, and emotional states, identifying signs of stress or discomfort.
- Facilitate communication among the Client Care Department, Specialty Department, and clients to ensure seamless coordination. Manage multi-platform communication channels, including phone, email, text, and specialized apps. Providing regular updates on patient status, including photos, to keep clients informed and reassured. Address walkie communication and respond to real-time questions or concerns.
- Collaborate with the Client Care Supervisor and Specialty Team Lead to ensure availability of necessary supplies and tools. Assist in scheduling department appointments to support the Department Coordinator. Work closely with pharmacists to discuss and fulfill prescriptions efficiently. Maintain service quality and operational efficiency within the Specialty Department.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years working as a veterinary technician, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine. LVT certification is preferred. Fear Free certification is strongly desired.
- Have an understanding of all basic veterinary knowledge, including restraint, phlebotomy, anesthesia, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc.
- Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members, and the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
